Nature protection can't be done by One

Let's talk about farming.
My girlfriend's father has a soy and rice farm in the south of Brazil.
Like most farmers, he uses pesticides to fight off insects who eat his crop.
Being critical about the use of those substances, I asked my girlfriend:
"Why doesn't he just stop using them?"
It turns out it's not that simple.
Let's imagine he stops using pesticides from one day to another.
Most likely, his fellow neighbors will continue using them on their fields.
Results: All the insects would immigrate to his farm, likely causing him significant losses.
It shows once more:
Everything is intertwined
Nature protection is a collective task
It might need one brave person to start and accept losses for the common good.
But in the end, we all have to pull on the same string to make a lasting difference.
This will take time.
