Are you posting on LinkedIn? Don't post for Likes!

There are 3 reasons why I try not to focus on likes and other metrics at all:

1) Likes don't directly correlate with your writing skill.

Yes, most articles that go viral are well-written. But not every well-written article will go viral. It also depends on timing, topic, relevance, target group, daily news, etc. If you judge the quality of your post based on likes, you become discouraged and lose confidence. Instead, base your judgment on your work on your perception.

2) You'll make a more significant difference by touching 5 people with a deep insight than by reaching 8.000 people with a shallow post.

Words and insights can go a long way. Let's say one article only reaches one person, but this person is inspired by it. This person will internalize the message and carry it to other people. It's less about reaching millions of people. It's the message behind an article that counts.

3) Likes won't last.

Soon, your article and your likes will be forgotten. It's a brief moment of fame. What will last are inspirations which cause a "click moment" in your readers' minds. In the long run, this will also contribute to your reputation as a writer and human being.

Likes, comments, and reach are your content's necessity, but not the goal.
