Why you should be paying more as a tourist

"That's $5."
- But the person before me just paid $2,5 less for the exact same thing!
"Yes, but that person was a local. You're not."
You've probably already experienced the same thing: Traveling to a foreign country like Egypt, Morocco, Bali, or Brazil and getting charged more than others.
Why? Because you obviously are not from there. Latin American speaking, you're a gringo. And gringos get different prices than locals.
"That's damn unfair. I hate that!" you might scream. Feel you, been there. That's usually when the bargain battles begin.
But you know what: You SHOULD be paying more.
I know that hurts in the center of righteousness which is typically located pretty close to our wallets, but let me explain:
First:
You shouldn't pay the local prices simply because you aren't. You're on holiday and are not going about your daily life. And normally, your holiday budgets are a bit more flexible than your daily expenses at home.
Second:
If you are on holiday in an exotic country, this indicates that you have money. Yes, I know, money and wealth are relative, and I'm very sure it's hard-earned. But look around you. Most likely, you're pretty well off compared to the locals.
Third:
Let's talk numbers here: $5 instead of $2,5. That's a 100% price difference! Outrages! Well, I'm not saying you shouldn't bargain. You can. But don't expect to land at the local prices because you won't feel the $2,5 less in your wallet. But surely the local vendor will feel the $2,5 more at the end of the month.
There are limits to this. Exploitation and fraud are ugly products of human greed - regardless of country and culture. You shouldn't be disproportionately overcharged. Talk to your local guide to get an idea of local prices. But don't expect to pay them. Because, in the end, you're not a local.
No saint here and can't say that I always follow this idea myself. So I want to know from you: What are your thoughts on this?
For instance, do you think remote workers should be paying local prices?
They are living with the locals, but earn $/€.
